The Northwest College Cabre Gym was packed with people both seated and lining the back wall on Saturday, May 12 as they waited for the entrance of the graduates during the processional.
Behind the scenes graduates were feeling a mix of excitement, sadness and exhaustion.
Art major John Jurmu was questioning why he decided to graduate.
“I’m done,” Jurmu said. “It’ll be nice to go through it, but I’m kind of starting to ask myself why I did all the work. [The ceremony] takes time, but it’ll be fun.”

Marvel has been building up for a massive release over the past four years. They released Iron Man, followed a month later by The Incredible Hulk. This was a major risk on their part thanks to the heap of crap that was Ang Lee’s The Hulk, along with practically all Marvel superhero movies that hit before it. Putting out a film adaptation of Iron Man, a hero that quite frankly, the common populous didn’t know nearly as well as Batman, Superman or Spiderman, then putting Robert Downey Jr. who is a big, expensive name on it was a risk most studios wouldn’t dare take. Thankfully, it worked out in their favor tenfold.

After two years and three cycles of searching, the Vice President for Academic Affairs position at Northwest College has finally been filled by Dr. Gerald “Gerry” Giraud.
Giraud, the last of four candidates who visited campus over the past few weeks, is a consultant-evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is currently Vice President for Instruction and Chief Academic Officer for the Oglala Lakota College in Kyle, S.D.
Professor of English and Chairperson of Humanities Division Rob Koelling, who was head of the hiring committee, said Giraud’s experience with the HLC was definitely a factor in the decision to hire him.

With the recent departure of former Athletic Director Andy Ward on April 20, adjunct history instructor Rex Myers has signed on as Northwest College’s Interim Athletic Director to fill the position.
Myers’ new duties managing the athletic department, include working with coaches, interacting with boosters and assisting with new athletes signing on to NWC.
Myers began the position on Monday, April 23 after Ward stepped down to accept an assistant coaching position at Idaho State University. Myers was picked for the interim position due in part to his past experience in working with athletic departments and his keenness to help in Ward’s absence.

Twenty-nine Northwest College students from 25 different areas of study were honored on Thursday, April 26, for academic excellence at the Student Academic Recognition Reception in the DeWitt Student Center.
Erin Yarborough, who was the only student honored in two divisions, received awards in both chemistry and biology.
Laura Uffelman received an award for her equine studies work and said she plans to use her degree to start a therapy center for wounded soldiers.
