A first-year Northwest College assistant English professor has sent a request to President Paul Prestwich and the President’s Advisory Council, asking them to consider offering benefits for same-sex domestic partnerships.
Rachel Hanan, who teaches composition, literature and Shakespeare courses, attended PAC’s Monday, Jan. 23 meeting and discussed her request.
“If this college is committed to diversity as its mission statement says,” Hanan said in an interview Monday, “it seems that offering benefits to same-sex partners helps to fulfill that.”

Northwest College President Paul Prestwich has a website that advertises his services as a speaker and leadership consultant and recently announced this to the campus.
In an email from Prestwich to faculty Monday, the president stated that his website, www.paulprestwich.com, has recently received an increased number of hits each week.
The website advertises Prestwich’s services as a speaker and leadership consultant. The home page displays a photo of Prestwich as well as photos of other higher learning institutions and brief descriptions of his experiences as an educator, administrator and speaker.

With my own wedding looming on the horizon (204 days from the press date of this paper, but who’s counting?) I’ve had all things nuptial on the brain and heart, but I haven’t forgotten that while the ceremony is a joyous occasion, the act should be a lifetime pledge enjoyed by any two people committed and in love.
Saying “I do” means agreeing to share everything from tears to laughter, meals to credit cards and everything in between. That “everything” includes things like insurance and other employee benefits. But those things are usually only available to one’s sweetheart if said sweetheart is one’s legally recognized spouse.

Northwest College Student Senate President Dillon Deffinbaugh told the Board of Trustees during his report on Jan. 9 that two freshmen and one sophomore representative would be vacating their roles as senators and elections would be held next week to fill the spots.
Trustee Carolyn Danko said she was curious why students were leaving.
“It’s about grades or not wanting to come back because of things that happened or just because they’re too busy,” Deffinbaugh said. “I don’t think any of them are actually dropping out of school, they just either don’t fill the 2.5 GPA requirement or they just have too much to do.”

The third week in January has come to be known as the date of the annual Spring Roundup at Northwest College and this year was no exception with big attendance and nationally-known speakers and entertainment.
On Jan. 19 and 20, the Roundup was sponsored by the Northwest College Agriculture Department and the Center for Training and Development, along with the USDA’s Risk Management Education and Outreach Partnership Program.
